Thursday, 9th July 2020

Dear parishioners

I am delighted to announce that after many weeks closure, we are in a position to re-open for the public celebration of Mass from Saturday 11th July!
However, it most certainly is NOT a return to how it was either in the availability or in the numbers who can attend; this is most especially true for those who might normally worship at Sacred Heart Church, whereby with social distancing I am VERY limited in how many can attend.
We have to start somewhere, though, and so I plan to celebrate Mass as follows:
Saturday, 11th July - Mass at 6pm - Aston le Walls - First Mass of Sunday (a temporary addition)

Sunday, 12th July - Mass at 9am - King's Sutton - Sunday Mass and at 10.45am - Aston le Walls - Sunday Mass

Wednesday, 15th July - Mass at 10am - Aston le Walls - Memorial of St Bonaventure Weekday Saturday, 18th July - Mass at 6pm - Aston le Walls - First Mass of Sunday (a temporary addition)
Sunday, 19th July - Mass at 9am - King's Sutton and at 10.45am - Aston le Walls - Sunday Mass (16th Sunday of the Year)
The above availability is possible thanks to Stewards who are required to support and help with the "flow" of the Mass in accord with current guidelines and instructions. I do hope to be in a position to increase the above to 3 Mass celebrations for Sunday and two Mass celebrations during the week - one in the day and one in the evening. Please be generous! There is most certainly no need for people to attend both the Saturday evening and Sunday morning Mass, and I request giving others a chance to attend Mass by giving serious consideration to restricting attending Mass only once a week, in the first instance. It is still possible to watch Mass (live-streamed or otherwise) from the comfort of your home!
Everything is not yet back to normal for us, whatever “appears” to be going on around. Those who are shielding or in 'at-risk' categories should not come to Mass, and clearly those who are displaying symptoms which could be COVID-19 should also not come. Please note that the Sunday obligation is still suspended until the present crisis is over.
I will be issuing further information later on today/this evening in anticipation of this Sunday Mass celebrations. It is crucial you read these notes when they arrive!
Due to the this being our first weekend of opening, the fact that our church in Aston le Walls is so small, and it would greatly help me with future planning, people will have to book with ME the Mass they would like to attend. I am aware that not everyone who is able to attend has access to the internet, I am looking in to this matter and trying to be as fair as possible, and I will be contacting some of those who might wish to attend, who are not on the internet.
Please telephone or email ME to book a seat on 01295 660592 or sacredheart_alw@btinternet.com
It is not going to be possible for everyone to normally attends Mass as they did before the pandemic - no Parish is able to do that at the moment. I am sorry about this. Equally, I realise that all this can seem a bit i, overwhelming, inconvenient and far from ideal, but these are the present conditions under which we can open the doors to offer full participation in the Mass. This is one more step in the right direction, and we all look forward to the day when we can be fully open to all who come. Let us not be dispirited or moan! Let us rejoice! As a certain hymn begins, "One more step along the world I go, One more step along the world I go; From the old things to the new, Keep me travelling along with you: And it's from the old I travel to the new; Keep me travelling along with you." May the Lord be with us through all of this.
With my prayers and best wishes, Fr James
